Notes about Dubai or what is so attractive about work and life under the palm trees

After reading on one of the rating social portals another story of a Ukrainian about employment abroad, which was crowned with his career success and personal prosperity, you think about the fact that you should periodically re-evaluate your “where am I now?”, “Is everything suits me in my life , work? " and "what can I do to make it better?" Successful experiences like these are highly motivating. And when you want more from life, believe in your potential, are ready to accept the challenge and get out of the comfort zone, which more "looks like" an ordinary and banal habit, a lot of new opportunities and horizons open up before you.

After talking with a representative of WorkEmirates, one of the leading recruiting agencies, about the specifics of legal employment in the UAE, we learned why Ukrainians (potential employees of VIP restaurants, hotels and not only) are so attracted by the country of contrasts. And also, what is important to know about the local people, their habits, morals, rules and traditions, living conditions and so on, in order to “be your own” in a team or even “take root”.

Work in the UAE. Target - Dubai

According to the expert of the "Work Emirates" recruiting agency, the United Arab Emirates as a whole is favorable for employment abroad.

However, among all the cities in the country, there are those that stand out from the rest.

According to statistics from the TripAdvisor travel portal, Dubai is in the TOP-20 cities in the world recommended for travel, where you can combine acquaintance with the characteristic modern and ancient culture, and active recreation with a lot of entertainment, and world-class shopping. The most beautiful city in the UAE took 17th place in the ranking, behind Paris, London, Rome, Bali, Crete and Phuket.

But if we talk about Dubai from the point of view of employment prospects, there are hardly any equals from the above list.

The most popular job in Dubai, as, in fact, in all the Emirates, is the service sector. There are more than 8 thousand restaurants and 600 hotels in the city, so waiters, bartenders, hostesses (specialists who meet guests) and others are always required here. In the future, having experience in the service sector, you can apply for more prestigious vacancies. “We offer applicants from Ukraine a salary of $ 700 (excluding tips) with basic knowledge of the English language. In the case of employment, the employer pays for the visa, flight, accommodation, meals and medical insurance, ”says a leading specialist at Work Emirates. Thus, the applicant has every chance to "recapture" the initial investment in his employment in just one month and start earning substantial money.

"97% of Work Emirates applicants get a job in the UAE, 72% of whom are interviewed the first time."

Dubai is a city of scale, where you determine the direction of movement The scale and contrasts of the city are truly impressive. You are either inspired by them, or you "fall from a great height and crash." Life in Dubai is a choice, a choice between the pursuit of luxury and wealth and complete despondency and lack of faith in oneself, one's capabilities. If you do not have a minimum of a representative class to drive a foreign car in the next 3-10 years, it will be difficult for you in this frantic rhythm.

On the one hand, working Hindus, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Filipinos, on the other, prosperous, well-to-do Europeans and Americans. There will be social castes always and everywhere. But in Dubai, they are cardinal. How do you want? Drive a presentable car, hand over the keys to a valet, shop around fashionable boutiques and buy jewelry from Graff? Or "sign" yourself a sad "verdict": "I will never live like this, I will never achieve this"? This is all figurative, the main difference is in the attitude to life. Either you leave your “comfort” zone and strive for change, or you don’t change anything. It's up to you to choose.

UAE is a perfectionist's paradise

If you do not know how to behave in the United Arab Emirates, behave modestly and calmly. The Emirates is a country of strict rules and laws that are respected and respected here, and is the safest in the Middle East. 97% of the population feel protected. If you cross the road, then in strictly designated places - at pedestrian crossings. If you throw out the glass or the wrapper, then only in the trash can. There is purity and beauty all around, and it is in your best interest to protect and respect it. The crowd is not swarming with drunks, homeless people and pickpockets. It is not allowed to show affection for a partner in public places - to hug, kiss and in every possible way emphasize intimate relationships. During Ramadan (the month of the strictest fasting, when Muslims are forbidden to eat, drink, smoke and succumb to temptations), everyone, regardless of religion, is advised to wear modest, closed clothes, and not to do in public everything that is forbidden to fasting. Despite the strict rules, it is great to travel to the UAE, live here and work. It's like a new stage of civilization. Just allow yourself to live in a civilized, high-tech, developed society, and you will very quickly forget how you lived before.

What to do in Dubai during your free time

Dubai is a city of rich culture, entertainment and sandy beaches. Being here, the tourist's duty is to visit the Dubai Opera, the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper, the gold, spice and fabric markets in the Dubai Bay area. Evening "go out" with colleagues at work, including the boss, is a common occurrence. This is a kind of rallying team building. Despite the fact that in one city you can find “the whole world” (here representatives of various nationalities), 90% of the locals speak English, so there are no problems with communication.

Accommodation and meals

Renting an apartment in Dubai is not a cheap pleasure. But you should worry about this only if you suddenly want to leave your job before the end of the contract. Often, the employer pays for housing and, as a rule, chooses not the most luxurious option, but clean, neat, convenient and comfortable, possibly in remote areas with organized transportation. Depending on the position, there are several types of housing - separate or cohabitation with one or more employees. Food costs are also covered by the employer. But, if you want to diversify breakfast, lunch and dinner with something else, this is already a personal expense.

Internet

Traditionally, it is believed that in Arab countries people have very limited access to the Internet. And even tourists only occasionally get access to social networks in strictly designated places. However, the digital age unites everyone in the virtual space and social networks play a leading role in this process. In order to find out exactly which social networks are widespread in Arab countries, and how popular they are, studies were carried out. Experts decided to assess whether the population of Arab countries trusts information sources and whether they use social media. Scientists from Northwestern University Qatar interviewed residents of eight Arab countries. The large-scale study included Tunisia, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. And, as it turned out, mainly the population of these countries gravitates towards freedom of speech on the Internet, and also loves Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

In addition, the Arab world even has its own Instagram stars with millions of fans and ladies who live completely social life and look like classic Western glamorous socialites. At the same time, LinkedIn and instant messengers, which are widespread among the population of Slavic countries, are completely unpopular in the Arab world. 94% use Facebook, 52% love Twitter, 46% of the population of the above countries use Google+. It turned out that about 10% of Internet users in these countries do not use social networks at all.

For example, Qatar. Electronic gadgets, smartphones and tablets are very popular here, but despite this, 26% of Internet users do not go to social media.

"Paper" formalities of employment in the UAE

Assistance in applying for a job abroad begins with the preparation and submission of a resume, more precisely, in your categorical decision "to start with a clean slate" or to significantly move up the career ladder. Jobs in the UAE are always in demand among Ukrainians, so the earlier you submit your CV, the more chances you have to apply for the best position. The employer is directly involved in obtaining a visa in the Emirates, you only need to collect a package of documents (a copy of your passport, higher education documents, medical form, photo) and send them through the agency. The UAE work visa is issued online for 2 months and sent by email. From this moment, the applicant becomes the proud owner of an Emirates ID with a three-year residence permit.
